2022 Chevrolet Suburban

The entry-level Suburban LS comes with 18-inch wheels and LED headlights. The LT adds to this with a hands-free liftgate, and if you bump up to the sporty RST, it has 22-inch wheels, an upgraded front fascia, and black exterior trim elements. The Z71 has off-road features such as all-terrain tires for the 20-inch wheels, increased ground clearance, a front skid plate, and front tow hooks. Another step up to the Premier adds magnetically controlled shocks.

The High Country has a special grille with upscale bronze accents, and it is the only trim with power-retractable side steps.

The base engine for the Suburban is a 5.3-liter V-8 gas engine with 355 horsepower. A 6.2-liter V-8 gas engine with 420 horsepower is optional for the RST, Z71, and Premier and comes standard with the High Country. In addition, a 3.0-liter turbo six-cylinder diesel engine is available for any trim except the Z71.

The Suburban might be large, but it has the horsepower to back it up. Even the base engine will easily propel it up to highway speed. The 6.2-liter gets you quicker acceleration and more passing power, and if you want better fuel economy, the turbodiesel is your best option. When equipped, the Suburban can tow up to 8,300 pounds.

Inside, the Suburban's three rows of seats have room for up to eight. It has over 41 cubic feet of cargo space behind all three rows and 93.8 cubic feet behind the second row. The LS comes with tri-zone automatic climate control and cloth upholstery, but moving up to higher trims adds leather upholstery, driver's seat memory settings, and heated front seats. A power-folding third row and ventilated front seats come in the top two trims.

The technology features start with an 8-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. You'll get wireless charging in the LT, which also upgrades to a 10.2-inch touch screen with Google built-in services. Depending on the trim, a rear entertainment system is available.

Every Suburban comes with a rearview camera, lane-departure warning, the Teen Driver system, and lane-keep assist. All models also have front and rear parking sensors, a rear-seat alert, pedestrian detection, forward automatic braking, and lane-departure warning. Just a step up to the LT gets you a surround-view camera system, and the Premier adds a blind-spot monitor, adaptive cruise control, and rear cross-traffic alert. If you choose the top-level High Country, it has a rear pedestrian alert system, surround-view parking cameras, and a head-up display.
